About Katie
I’m a 25 year old teacher living in Kent. I am getting married at the end of March and have been with my fiancé for almost 5 years.
"I have always been ‘chubby’, but after leaving secondary school the weight started falling off me and by college I was tiny!"
But it became a bit of an obsession and I wasn’t eating nearly enough trying to get thinner.
It all went downhill when I started Uni. The nonstop drinking, takeaways and ready meals meant my weight ballooned.
Since then I’ve yo-yoed up and down, but never getting down to my weight at college.
This is mainly due to being ‘settled’ with my OH Tony and having more takeaways and meals out and generally being more relaxed about food.
"Last year I got up to my heaviest weight ever and I was sick of crying every time I tried to find something to wear or when another pair of jeans wouldn’t fit."
Around this time my lovely OH Tony proposed and I knew I had to do something about my weight because I wasn’t going to be a fat bride!
I lost 5lbs in my first week and then have steadily lost since.
"I’ve just kept the image of my wedding dress in my head and I’m determined not to put it all back on again."
Seeing photos of myself when I was at my heaviest makes me feel sick. I look disgusting and can’t believe I let myself get like that.
What diets (if any) have you tried in the past?
I haven’t tried any specific diets in the past.
Tell us how your weight has affected your lifestyle/mood/stopped you doing things.
My weight never really held me back from doing what I wanted to, but I always felt unhappy with how I looked and I was covering myself in lots of layers feeling sorry for myself.
I kept on eating whatever I liked! I always felt tired and unhealthy.
What has been your main motivation to lose weight?
I’ve always been a yo-yo dieter, getting right down to goal, then going right back up to my heaviest.
"This past year my motivation has been my wedding and it’s been the best motivator in the world!"
Going for dress fittings and having to have it taken in to fit made me feel really good and was addictive!
I’m hoping to maintain my weight after the wedding though, and not become a fat wife!
Which tools and resources do you use regularly on WLR? Which tools do you find invaluable?
I always use the food and exercise diaries. It helps to keep me on track throughout the day and see how many treats I can have in the evening!

Have you purchased/used any products/fitness equipment that has helped you with your goals?
I’ve bought Wii games (Just Dance 1, 2, 3, Zumba) Yoga and Davina DVDs, weights and an exercise bike.
Why do you think WLR has helped you lose weight where other diets have failed?
I can eat what I like and still lose weight, as long as I am within calories.
"I can have a bottle of wine or a pizza and not feel guilty. If I haven’t got the calories for it, I earn them by doing exercise."
I used to restrict all my ‘treats’ and became miserable, but I like food too much!
WLR has helped me see that as long as everything is in moderation, you can eat your favourite foods!

Have you struggled at points in your weight loss journey? Experienced a weight loss plateau? What has kept you motivated?
I’ve had steady losses during my weight loss journey and not many plateaus.
When I’ve become unmotivated, I’ve given myself a break for a couple of days of logging, I’ve bought something in a size smaller or I’ve forced myself to exercise and it makes you feel instantly good!
I have a great weight loss buddy too who has really helped me and we go to classes together.
Since losing weight can you give some examples of how your life has changed?
I thought my life would change dramatically since losing the weight, but it hasn’t really!
I guess the only thing is I’ve become more confident, and I now enjoy going shopping and knowing clothes will fit me!
Exercise routines adopted?
"I try to keep a lot of variety in my exercise routine as I get easily bored and as soon as I get to a point where I’m dreading it, I change it!"
I do a mix of yoga, cycling, Salsa dancing, Body pump, Zumba and long walks at the weekend.
