Hello and Welcome to Hudson's Headspace
November 22, 2013
To those of you who have shared my daily musings on Advice and Support… Hiya… Come on in (and let me know what you think of my “new place”).
To those of you who don’t know me… Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. Allow me to introduce myself…
I’m a weightloss resources member… a “returnee” who successfully lost three stones a few years ago but, following illness, medication (and the arrival of a well-known bakery chain on the high street) I’m once again on a quest to lose the pounds which will take me to a low-end healthy BMI.
I’m an ordinary person, with an ordinary life. I have family to care for; a day job to pay the bills. I “moonlight” as a writer and performer of comic verse, I’ve studied and practice NLP; and I know that the best way of losing weight and keeping it off is absolutely “EAT LESS… MOVE MORE”.
It is common sense and common knowledge… and it sounds so simple and straightforward…
But the truth of the matter is weightloss can sometimes be anything but simple and straightforward. However much we know that exercise and sound nutrition will get us to goal and help to keep us there, the weightloss journey isn’t just about what we eat and how we much we move…
It’s about finding a strategy, a route, a way forward that is best for you. If losing weight were the only thing we had to focus on then I have no doubt we would all be slender and slim… but “life” gets in the way.
Stresses and strains, worries and woes… they creep into our day-to-day existence. They drain our energy; they steal our focus and resolve; they make us put ourselves at the bottom of a long (and seemingly ever-growing) list of priorities.
And when we are under their influence, when life seems tough, they make us believe that a cheese and onion pasty will make everything better; they convince us that several (large) glasses of red after a horrible day at the office will give the world a rosy (or should that be “rose”) glow; they plant the seed in your head that sitting in front of the telly for four hours is preferable to a workout…
What goes on in our heads is just as important as “moving more and eating less”… Our headspace is our own personal computer. It is our central processing system; the “mission control” which determines our thoughts, our actions and our moods. But it isn’t “in control”. We often forget that. We often act without thinking because it’s how we function… on autopilot, doing things subconsciously.
The reality is that we all have the ability to Take Control. To override our “default settings”; to “rewire” our brains to process things differently, to shift our perspective, to see other viewpoints, and to change our course. And whether it is taking control in life or on your weightloss journey… The possibilities are endless…
Weightloss isn’t easy. It takes thought and action, planning and preparation. We are all on a similar journey but are each making our way in our own utterly unique way. That’s why there are so many different routes to weightloss available. What works for one person may not work for another; one size does not “fit all” and “quick fix” solutions will not necessarily lead you to permanent success.
Sometimes it can feel like you are the only one on this road. It can seem lonely and difficult, challenging and frustrating. It can sometimes be overwhelming… particularly when you face “rocks in the road”. Other times things fall into place, the way ahead is clear and you are unstoppable, you are focussed and positive and in control.
It is because we all share a common goal, but are on very different journeys that makes Weight Loss Resources so amazing. Vast amounts of information and knowledge available at our fingertips; expert help on every aspect of changing size and shape and habits.
But the best resource of all is the collective strength of WLR members. They provide endless supply of encouragement and support… They understand the journey but know that it is entirely personal to each of us. They willingly offer a shoulder to cry on, a place to vent, and a different perspective to help others to see things differently.
Whatever the query or conundrum… whether it is about life in general or weightloss in particular, just key it into the forum… If the answer isn’t already out there, the WLR members will provide strategies and solutions, words of wisdom and, when things get tough, can carry you forward when you really feel like you can’t go on.
I hope my Headspace will be a place you visit often. I don’t offer advice, I don’t tell people what to do, I just offer my view on life, weightloss and the universe. It is a place where the welcome is always warm, where there is always space for everyone and somewhere which, hopefully, gives you a few minutes in your day to think, reflect, recharge your batteries, and to remind yourself that although this is your journey… You are not alone.
With a Huge Hug
