Want Angelina Jolie’s arms, Liz Hurley’s legs, Anastasia’s abs and Kylie’s bum? According to the Lawn Tennis Association it’s as easy as taking up tennis! But what if the closest you’ve come to tennis is sitting in your front room watching Wimbledon on TV?
Fortunately, the Lawn Tennis Association comes to the rescue with its Play Tennis scheme, now in its ninth year. The campaign runs from April through to October and offers free tennis days in clubs, parks and schools across Britain to anyone of any age or ability.
Tennis star Tim Henman says “With the stresses and long hours of the workplace, smashing a ball around a court is a great way to let off steam and get fit. Tennis can be played by anyone and with more and more people playing tennis, the greater the chance of finding our future British champions.”
Tennis provides an all over workout and is great for strengthening the heart and lungs. It’s also a fabulous calorie burner. An hour on the court can burn a massive 565 calories. Meanwhile, forearm and backhand strokes help to trim biceps and triceps.
Lunging for the balls helps to develop toned thighs and curvaceous calves. Every twist and turn helps to tone and flatten your tum. And fancy footwork helps to lift and tone your bum.
