20 Ways to Have a Brilliant Weight Loss Day

By WLR guest writer, Cara Frost-Sharratt

Relaxing Pedicure

Many people view weight loss as an ongoing chore whereby you miss out on all the good stuff. But losing weight is a positive life step that needs a positive mental attitude and every day should be celebrated.

Here are 20 ways to make sure you have a wonderful day and feel good while you’re losing weight.

  1. Treat yourself to a new nail polish and give yourself a pedicure. Choose a crazy colour that will make you smile when you take your socks off.
  2. Make yourself and someone else’s day by phoning a friend you haven’t spoken to in ages. Set aside some time and catch up on all the news.
  3. Buy that outfit you’ve had your eye on for weeks. There’s something very exciting about making spontaneous decisions: especially when it comes to spending money!
  4. Arrange to meet a friend in town for a coffee.
  5. Buy a book and give yourself a whole uninterrupted hour of sofa time. Losing yourself in a good book is a great way to relax and unwind.
  6. Cook you and your partner a special meal. Set the table and take the time to talk and eat at a leisurely pace.
  7. Have a long, hot bath with all your favourite pampering products.
  8. When you get dressed in the morning choose an outfit that you know you look good in. It might be something that you’ve recently bought, or an old favourite that fits again now that you’ve shed a few pounds.
  9. Treat yourself to a bouquet of flowers. There’s no need to wait until someone else buys them for you – flowers are an instant mood-enhancer and they’ll brighten up your house and your day.
  10. Buy some exotic fruit and make a lovely fresh fruit smoothie. This will give you an instant energy buzz, as well as tasting great.
  11. Switch off the telly and take your partner up to bed for an early night. Great for your relationship and your waistline!
  12. Take a day off work. It feels wonderfully indulgent to have a day off for no reason. Have a long lie-in then take the opportunity to hit the shops or visit a gallery or museum.
  13. Send a text to the person you’ve been flirting with for weeks. You keep meaning to do it – today’s the day!
  14. Choose your favourite CDs and go for a drive. There doesn’t need to be a destination, just drive for pleasure and sing along to the soundtrack.
  15. Book that weekend away that you’ve been talking about. Dates in the diary are a great way to keep you going when work gets tough.
  16. Invite your mates round for a laid-back dinner. Cook something quick and easy so you can concentrate on catching up.
  17. Pop in to your local beauty salon for a massage or facial. It’s relaxing and beneficial – the perfect way to feel good.
  18. Put a card or note in your partner’s bag or lunch box so they find it when they get to work – happiness is contagious.
  19. You don’t need to splurge on the calories in order to treat yourself. Take some time out to shop at leisure and choose healthy treats to liven up lunch and dinner.
  20. Don’t wait for a party to create a cocktail: this indulgent tipple works just as well for an after-work drink for one. Choose your favourite and sip in style.
