Weight Loss Pill

dietitian comments on the possible development of a new pill which will increase our libido and help us to lose weight.

Be Sexier and Slimmer with a New Pill?

By Dietitian, Juliette Kellow BSc RD

Weight Loss Pill

This month, the news has been full of reports on a new pill that could soon be available to boost our libido AND help us lose weight.

The story broke after Professor Robert Millar from the Medical Research Council’s Human Reproduction Unit in Edinburgh gave an interview to a Scottish newspaper.

For several years, Professor Millar has been carrying out research looking at a hormone released by the hypothalamus of the brain, which has an important role in reproduction.

He discovered that the hormone, called Type 2 Gonadotrophin-releasing hormone, didn’t just seem to increase the libido of shrews and monkeys, but it also reduced their food intake by about a third.

So far, the hormone-releasing pill has only been tested on animals but Professor Millar says, “The next stage is to produce a drug that simulates the actions of this hormone. It is most likely that we will do it in partnership with a pharmaceutical firm. It could be available to women within the next 10 years.”

WLR says:

As is usually the case, anything that sounds too good to be true, usually is – and this is no exception. Currently, there is no pill in development and it remains unclear whether the same effects would be seen in humans.

It’s certainly an interesting piece of research, but for the time being, you’ll need to stick to your diet and find other ways to boost your libido.

Simply losing a few pounds may be all that it takes to boost your confidence and self-esteem so that you not only look slimmer, but also feel far sexier.
