Slimming World Launches Low Calorie Egg Recipe Competition

Slimmingworld has launched a low calorie egg recipe competition but WLR already knows that eggs can be really good when you’re trying to diet – they fill you up and are a great source of vitamins.

Eggs for Dieting

By WLR Staff

Joining forces with Slimming World, British Lion Eggs have realised the value of the humble egg in our diet. They are asking Slimming World members to come up with some eggsellent low calorie egg recipes as part of a Slimmingworld egg recipe competition.

Eggs have had a rough ride over the years with dietitians and nutritionists arguing over the benefits and downside of their nutritional value. Common consensus today agrees that eggs are an excellent form of protein and can form a healthy part of your diet.

"Eggs are an excellent and compact source of nutrients. The latest research finding have highlighted that the major dietary risk in obesity is saturated fat, and eggs contain very little of this type of fat. Furthermore eggs are relatively low in calories... The good old egg is now recognised as such an important part of a well-balanced diet that the new dietary recommendations allow for one egg per day.

If you are dieting, the key is to cook eggs without fat. It is not necessarily the eggs which are fattening but what we cook them in. If you do fry, ensure that you use monounsaturated or polyunsaturated oils such as olive oil,, sunflower oil, or corn oil rather than saturated fats such as butter , margarine and lard" Dr. Jeremy Sims*

The fat, of which only 1.7g will be saturated, comes in the yolk. Eggs are packed with vitamins and nutrients including Vitamin A, B, D &E, iron, zinc, riboflavin and folate.

Cheap and versatile, boil or poach your eggs and serve with wholemeal bread; try a vegetable omelette or savoury pancake.
