Hi,

With all the scare stories connecting processed meat with cancer risk in the news WLR dietitian Juliette Kellow's feature on vegetarian weight loss is (by coincidence I have to admit) especially apt. She provides guidance and advice on issues that particularly affect vegetarians and shed some light on the veg vs meat debate.

Plus we've got plenty of meat for those who wouldn't dream of giving up the bacon butties - hope you enjoy...

Best wishes,
Pat

Lose weight vegetarian style
Many vegetarians struggle to find information on the right diet to adopt for weight loss. Here's dietitian Juliette Kellow's guidance and advice.

Just for the taste of it
Nothing is more tasty and nutritious than local produce eaten in season. Tracy Dobson has some ideas: Foods In Season.

Weight issues in the news
Also check out some of our news snippets – you’ll find new official thinking about exercise, how obesity could be fuelling the cancer time-bomb and cholesterol drugs that protect you even after you stop taking them.

Alison is a hero
The first of our WLR success stories this month is Alison, who put on a lot of weight after having twins. She turned her life around and lost over three stone by learning about the food she was eating, getting organised with her calorie counting, and finding exercises that she enjoyed doing.

Stephanie is a hero
With a sedentary lifestyle based around her young family, Stephanie found herself with lots of temptation and little time for exercise. She went through a familiar cycle of looking for quick fixes and fad diets before settling for step by step calorie control. It’s a strategy that lost her 3 stone – and gave her much more energy.

Burn calories walking
Now is the time of year to wrap up and go for a walk. Walking burns 144 calories per hour, and walking in a group can be both sociable and enjoyable.

Before I go there is a small announcement – look out for the independent customer reviews and star ratings we are adding to the Diet and Fitness Resources site. These will be going live in the next couple of weeks and are administered by Bazaar Voice, a reputable and totally independent company that administers similar reviews for Maceys department store in New York.
