AUGUST 2006

Hi,

As many of us are settling down with a good read around gardens and swimming pools it is likely that few would have chosen a diet book. However, some of these have proven to be very popular and very influential. Our dietitian Juliette Kellow has reviewed some of the latest diet and weight loss books. Which one will help you turn a new page?

Best wishes, Pat

Diet Bytes
Juliette Kellow serves up more health news hot off the press:

Never Too Late to Mend a Broken Heart?
Encouraging reports just released suggest that adopting a healthy lifestyle at any stage in life can help to reduce the risk of heart disease. The importance of a healthy lifestyle is highlighted again as research confirms that people with diabetes are more likely to develop cardio-vascular disease.
Pedometer Accuracy
Research has shown that, when it comes to pedometer accuracy, you get what you pay for. We have also conducted a test of our own pedometers to make sure you can step out with confidence that your step counter is not pulling your leg.
Heavy on Your Mind
The fact that depression and obesity are linked may not come as a surprise but there are lots of ways that one can lead to the other.
Soft Drink Calories Hard to Stomach
Further confirmation, if any were needed, that many soft drinks contain lots of calories and very few nutrients. Our examination of the main offenders includes the usual suspects.
Don't Let Weight Gain Take Off
Though a holiday may be a time to leave your diet behind for a while, it can be very easy to lose sight of it completely before you've even stepped off the plane. Follow these tips to avoid excess baggage.

Move It Challenge
Join in with Weight Loss Resources members as they get active and shift some weight with the new WLR Challenge. There's an opportunity to Move It for a good cause with the Help the Hospices 5K run.

Success Stories
Already feeling the benefits of Weight Loss Resources, Maria has changed her eating habits after becoming more health conscious; while Malcolm has rediscovered his slimmer, more active side.

Barbecue Recipe Competition Winners
The grills have cooled down and the results are in for our latest recipe contest. But whose ideas were hot and whose dreams went up in smoke?
