Here are a few guidelines to steer you in
the right direction…
Ghee (clarified butter) is the fat
most often used for cooking Indian foods and is highly
concentrated in calories at 898kcal per 100g (ordinary butter has
737)
Helpful Hints
As a general
rule, drier dishes will be lower calorie than those in
lots of sauce
Go for Tikka
dishes or Tandoori style meats
Share portions
of boiled rice
Naan bread is
high in fat and calories - a better choice is chapati,
which is cooked without fat
Eat slowly!
Portions in Indian restaurants tend to be over-generous,
when you start to feel full, don't be afraid to stop
eating.
Avoid
Creamy curries, such as kormas and masalas
Mushroom dishes
- mushrooms soak up fat like sponges
Ordinary fizzy
pop drinks - choose the 'diet' alternative instead
