UK’s largest survey into fattism and weight discrimination launched
Experiences of local people urgently needed
UK residents of all ages and sizes are being urged to take part in the
UK’s largest survey into attitudes toward fattism and discrimination based
on weight in today’s society.
Developed by www.weightlossresources.co.uk – home to the UK’s largest
nutritional database – the new fattism survey aims to comprehensively
determine the level of bias towards larger people and those considered
overweight by members of the general public.
It is expected that more than 5,000 people from across the UK, and many
others from overseas, will take part in the survey (making it the largest
ever conducted), including thousands of men and women who are currently
concerned about their weight or are on a diet.
Announcing the launch of the survey, Tracey Walton, Managing Director
of weightlossresources.co.uk, said: “Fattism and discrimination based on
weight are unfortunately as real in today’s society as racism and sexism.
“This survey aims to once and for all determine the level of the
discrimination occurring and identify how severe the problem really is.
“The findings may play an important role in helping to address fattism
both in the workplace and in wider society.”
Local views are now urgently needed to help build a complete picture of
fattism and weight discrimination across the UK.
