Fish with all its different flavours,
tastes and textures, provides healthy nutritious meals. Low in fat, fish is
rich in Omega 3 essential fatty acids. It is also a good source of protein
and contains less saturated fat than meat or poultry. Our panel were a
little wary of fish dishes but by the end of the tasting were 'converts' and
asking for more… see what you think.
Chunky Cod Fillets, Be Good to Yourself, Sainsbury's*
Delicious! Sumptuous mouthfuls of tasty cod, moist and delicate. A
lovely crispy coating which complemented the flavour of the fish.
Made you feel healthy eating the fillets. Accompany with vegetables -
a lovely, filling meal.

Smoked Haddock and Mustard Sauce, Healthy Eating, Tesco*
A creamy mustard sauce with potatoes and broccoli accompanied a good
portion of haddock. Looked and tasted appetizing. The haddock was
tender and the vegetables crisp.

Lemon Sole Fillets, Count On Us, Marks & Spencer*
The packaging oozes appeal, lemon sole, carrots, courgettes, peas
and cabbage with a dressing and the meal lived up to its image. The
sole was firm but melted in the mouth. The vegetable accompaniment
was a little watery and lost its flavour a little. Left the feeling
of something a little special!

Vegetable Tuscany Fish Bake, Bird's Eye*
We couldn't envisage how the frozen block inside could ever
metamorphosis into the mouthwatering exhibit on the packaging but
somehow it did. The combination of melted cheese over roast
vegetables (if a little thin on the ground), topping off a fair
piece of cod, tasted delicious.

Coley Portions, Skinless and Boneless, Diet Choice, Waitrose*
Although it looked small at first, the portion size was just right.
A hearty chunk of tasty fish which remained firm through cooking and
did not reduce in size. Good texture, breaking into thick flakes
under the fork. None the worse for lack of breadcrumbs etc, would
have been nice with a mild white sauce (you can make your own!) Nice
accompanied with mashed potato and peas.

Conclusion
All of the dishes tested proved a
success and many of the panel decided to hunt out more fish dishes
to taste. All agreed the dishes tasted good and left you feeling
you'd had a healthy meal. Very difficult to place an outright winner
- no real losers - in fact, we came to the decision they all
deserved full marks. Go on - try some fish dishes!
