China Town comes to Weight Loss Resources! All those weekend Chinese
takeaways can load on the calories, but there are many low calorie
options available from the major brands - you don't have to go without
and you may be surprised at the quality of the dishes on offer. Our
panelists were desperate to get their teeth into some of the low-cal
treats. Here are just five… there are many more!
Prawn and Noodles in Sweet Chilli Sauce, Count on Us,
Marks & Spencer*
The packet looked sumptuous: oozing with appeal; raising
our expectations - and we weren't let down. The dish looked
vibrant, colourful and appetizing. All agreed it tasted lovely
with the different flavours coming together. Perfect!

Thai Chiang Mai Chicken and Noodles, Be Good to
Yourself, Sainsbury's*
A very appetizing dish. The variety of textures and
tastes made it very popular with the panelists. The
portion size was notably impressive and would
leave you satisfied. Not obviously a low fat option.

Chicken in a Black Bean Sauce with Rice, Healthy
Eating, Tesco*
Good quality portion (comes complete with rice).
The dish had a pleasing appearance and an inviting
aroma. There was a reasonable quantity of chicken. The
sauce was a little thin, but had a good taste. Well
worth trying for a complete meal-in-one.

Kung Po Chicken, Diet Choice, Waitrose*
An appealing package but the meal looked a little
watery although there was a generous portion of
chicken. A tangy sauce which blended with the chicken
and left you feeling 'as though you'd had a dinner'.

Sweet and Sour Chicken with Rice, Weight Watchers
from Heinz*
As with the other Weight Watchers dishes we thought
the portion size for an adult's meal was poor and
would leave you wanting more. A very watery sauce with
little chicken. We thought the rice was intended to
'pad out' the dish. Sorry but few points - this will
make you feel deprived.

Conclusion
The standard of the dishes was quite surprising. Marks &
Spencer's was a firm favourite whilst, with the exception of
Weight Watchers, the others were all appetizing and worth a
try. This leads us to believe that there must be many other
great tasting low fat Chinese dishes out there. Enjoy!
