Jobs at Weight Loss Resources

WLR Background Information for Job Applicants History

The first Weight Loss Resources website www.weightlossresources.co.uk  was launched in January 2001 as an experimental web project by current Managing Director Tracey Walton. The project continued to run until a management buyout in 2004 took the site into a new company: Weight Loss Resources Ltd.

Since then Weight Loss Resources Ltd has expanded to include online retail of fitness and diet products at www.dietandfitnessresources.co.uk and the publishing of diet-related books and materials, including the best-selling annual Calorie, Carb & Fat Bible.

In August 2007 we launched our first TV partnership weight loss website www.cookyourselfthin.co.uk with Tiger Aspect and Channel 4, and produced an American version in April 2009 at www.cookyourselfthin.tv .

In May 2009, in partnership with ITV and Shine Productions, we launched The Biggest Loser Club site at www.biggestloser.co.uk

Brand Values

The Weight Loss Resources brand is about ‘fad free’ weight loss. We promote healthy eating, portion control and exercise as a means of getting to and maintaining a healthy weight, and provide the tools, data, guidance and support people need to do this for themselves.

Weight Loss Resources members don’t go on a diet, they use the tools to change their eating and lifestyle habits and learn how to eat well and live healthily.

Weight Loss Resources abides by guidance for best practice for commercial weight loss organisations provided by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) issued in December 2006, specifically:

  • helping people assess their weight and decide on a realistic healthy target weight
  • focusing on long-term lifestyle changes rather than a short-term, quick-fix approach
  • being multicomponent, addressing both diet and activity, and offering a variety of approaches
  • using a balanced, healthy-eating approach
  • recommending regular physical activity (particularly activities that can be part of daily life, such as brisk walking and gardening) and offering practical, safe advice about being more active
  • including some behaviour change techniques, such as keeping a diary and advice on how to cope with ‘lapses’ and ‘high-risk’ situations
  • Recommending and/or providing ongoing support.

In addition to that, we (managers and senior Helpteam staff) regularly attend conferences and seminars on obesity and dietary issues, including the annual National Obesity Forum conference, to ensure that the team has a deep level of understanding and that our knowledge is up to date.

Quality of Content & Service

We retain dietitians Lyndel Costain RD and Juliette Kellow BSc RD as consultants. We refer to them on any matters relating to diet and health that need professional input, for example: issues relating to pregnancy, breastfeeding and medical conditions and newly published research on diet related health and weight loss. Lyndel and Juliette write much of the site’s content including reports, reviews, advice articles, food plans and answers to specific diet-related questions.

We retain personal trainer Nicola Glanville (PTI REP Level 3). Nicola provides us with advice and guidance on exercise matters and writes exercise plans, reviews and advice/how to articles.

All our Helpteam members go through a rigorous in-house training programme plus study for, and must pass, a course in Human Nutrition provided by the Open University.

Support for members is a crucial part of the service we offer and our Helpteam recently received a commendation in the National Customer Service Awards.
