Laurence Beeken, WLR Food information Executive and Site Manager

Laurence is responsible for the integrity of the Weight Loss Resources Food Database which contains over 60,000 food and drink items, and is constantly being added to and updated with new and currenet information. The database covers all major UK brands, including the main supermarket brands. Values for calorie, fat, protein, carbohydrate, fibre and alcohol are given, plus salt, sugar and saturated fat where available. Using the database, Laurence also creates helpful food plans and nutritious and interesting recipes.

With a background in diet and fitness, food manufacturing, horticulture and small holding, Laurence has particular expertise in the composition of food, sports nutrition, exercise and food plans for muscle building.

Laurence has bred and kept poultry for over 20 years both as a back-garden hobby and for exhibition, successfully showing at National level.  Currently he breeds and shows miniature horses for fun!

From 2007 to 2008, Laurence contributed to Kitchen Garden Magazine, providing articles and pictures covering all aspects of poultry-keeping, from egg to plate.  More recently he has contributed to Grow Your Own Magazine, Your Chickens Magazine, Men's Fitness and Bella.

In February 2010, he successfully launched (in conjunction with Haynes Manuals) the Chicken Manual, a complete guide to keeping chickens from egg to plate for both the beginner and more experienced poultry keeper.

Laurence qualified as a VCTC Complimentary Therapist in July 2010, bringing a sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the WLR team along with experience in the effects of complimentary therapies on adipose tissues.
