Bananaman Chase – 25th June 2006
'In gorgeous Victoria Park, chasing adults dressed up as
bananas! I have had a fabulous day! Weather was very very
warm, sun in the sky behind the clouds. The laps were about 2m
each and the park does benefit from areas of shade and one
slight incline that feels like Everest by the third lap. Got
there nice and early and met Rachael, then our remaining WLR’s
arrived: Kim, Nat, Sue, Alice. Really great group of people
and fab to put names and faces together. We all put our
picnics etc in the same area for after the race. Leaving the
supporting rellies and kiddies to play and shout us on!
'Race was tough, but good fun, chasing the nana’s really
gave you added impetus. I went past 7 (of 10), which I was
very chuffed with. Saw hubby and littlun on each lap and got
shouts of encouragement. Yay!
'The race organisation was very good – loads of loos at the
start, lots of free bananas and water both on and off the
course, an ok goody bag (anyone want a pot noodle and
pepperami….), and a lovely warm day.
'As each of us finished we went back to give the others a
cheer over the line and then we all congratulated each other
and sat and nibbled on goodies. Nat was well prepared with
wine and glasses to toast each others successes too.
'A big thank you to Nat for being co-ordinator of the day –
YAY for Nat. We all recognised each other really easily and it
felt like we knew each other – how strange eh! The rest of you
were with us in spirit too.
'A pb for me, so I’m very happy: 45.54 (taking 2mins off
previous best), I’m sure spurred on by knowledge that my
fellow WLR’s were on the course too'.

'We collected 32 bananas between us! A pretty impressive
tally! First pic (not brilliant) is of TiggerSC's back as she
heads victorious over the finish line!
'A PB for me too. 50'27" so not quite the 49'59" I was
hoping for but a 33 second improvement so the glass of post
race bubbly probably deserved!
'Lovely meeting everyone. It really does feel as if you
have known everyone for years!! Another one for the running
calendar!'
Rachael Reynolds
'REALLY enjoyed my first running experience, was made MUCH
nicer by meeting you guys too.'

'Went jogging last night with my mate and jogged
continuously for 20mins, then walked for 1.5 mins and then
jogged the rest of the way home - another 6mins :-) I am
sooooooooooo happy YAY!'

'I've been a member for 5 weeks or so. I've been looking at
the message board but not taken part in it. I'm really
impressed by the support everyone gives eachother. I've been a
regular gym member for the last few months (on and off for 10
years+) and always kind of enjoyed running although i'd prefer
to go to the pub. Anyway I've been really inspired by all you
budding runners and today I ran my first 10K in the gym on the
treadmill 66mins 37 seconds so I'm welled chuffed.
Keep on inspiring thanks.'
