Diet History

Loads – you name I have tried it. When I was younger I had a good go at most as I was always overweight though not unhappy about it. The Atkins diet probably had the best results along with Weight Watchers and the worst ever was the egg and grapefruit diet – ughhh!!! My most enjoyable attempt at weight loss was 2 weeks at a health farm – pure bliss – did not want to come out!!

Have you lost weight before and regained the weight?

Yes – lots of times which is really bad isn’t it but I think lots of us have been up and down. Often I would lose a big amount of weight for a holiday and then put it all on again afterwards – very frustrating.

How being overweight has affected you…

When I was younger I always was a up and down with my weight – it did not however affect my social life. As I got older I have followed diets and healthy eating plans for odd periods but never really stuck to anything. I have always been a bit self conscious in a swimsuit but it has never stopped me going to the beach and I always used to hate those communal changing rooms that thankfully have now disappeared in most shops! I suppose now that I am thinner, I like myself far better though even when I was at my heaviest (probably around 95 kgs) I still did not miss out on anything in life and always had a great circle of friends.

Motivation to Diet

New clothes in a size 12 (well and 14 sometimes!!), feeling pleased when I see my reflection in a window, my legs not aching at having to support all those extra kilos, my heart beating stronger and better during a long walk, my husband not being able to call me obese, peoples comments in general that I look great.

Discovering Weight Loss Resources

I picked up a copy of Slimmer quite by chance one day and there was an ad in there – I had nothing better to do and so had a look at the site – here I am one year later and nearly 20 kgs lighter!!!

How Weight Loss Resources Helps

It has helped in that I now have a very good idea of calorie values – far better than before and this makes me aware of what I am eating generally, I know how to put together a good healthy meal and always get my 5 (often a lot more) portions of fruit and veg a day. I use periodically the recipes though perhaps should utilise these a bit more but love reading the success stories as they give me hope that we can all, with a bit of perseverance, lose weight. The fact that I have lost a substantial amount of kilos means that I now understand what I must eat for the rest of my life – obviously I go off the rails at times and have my weaknesses but the fact that I seem to be able to get back on track again is only thanks to WLR. The support from other members is invaluable and I know that I can log on at any time of day and get help, advice or support from all those lovely people out there.

The Best of Weight Loss Resources

The diary has been my salvation and for nearly 3 months I used it without fail every day – it was so easy to see how many calories I had eaten. I also use the boards regularly as the support is fantastic – I would never have kept going had it not been for the knowledge that there as a whole world of people out there in similar situations. The messages I have received have been great and I only hope that mine have been as supportive to others – sometimes it is difficult to log on every day but the fact that you know there is someone there 24 hours (yes, I have posted instead of raiding the fridge in the early hours AND have had an answer!!) somehow is comforting! Now that I exercise a bit more I am also using the exercise diary – once again a great source of knowing how much more you can eat daily. I like the nutrition reports and am always interested in seeing whether I am close to the target amounts though I really think that a daily alcohol amount should be included (one glass of red wine……….)

Sarah's Tips for Losing Weight

My only tip really is to join up for the free trial and see for yourself – everyone seems to adapt the site to their needs and if it works for me (never had much willpower and exercise was a bad word) then it has to be worth a try for everyone trying to lose either a few or a lot of kilos.
