The Pink Patch Online Advert Banned
The Pink Patch online advert has been banned because of the lack of medical evidence backing its slimming and weight loss claims. WLR guest writer, Cara Frost-Sharratt investigates.
The Pink Patch Online Advert Banned
By WLR Guest Writer, Cara Frost-Sharratt
The Advertising Standards Authority has banned an online advert for a diet patch. The makers claimed that by wearing the Pink Patch, dieters could lose a stone in weight over a two-week period. As there was no actual medical evidence to back up the claim, the advert was said to be misleading and irresponsible, promoting bad medical practice.
The meteoric rise of the Internet over the last few years has resulted in a number of similar scam slimming devices. Although most people simply dismiss them as nonsense, it only takes a relatively small minority to buy into the fantasy of instant weight loss to ensure huge profits for the people selling them.
WLR says . . .
Some people are always on the lookout for the next ‘miracle’ weight loss product. Although there is no such thing, individuals desperate to lose weight quickly can easily be sucked in with promises of fast results and supposed endorsements from satisfied customers who have shed the pounds literally overnight.
People with weight issues can sometimes suffer from low self-esteem and these scammers are ruthlessly preying on peoples’ insecurities. They target them when they are their most vulnerable and have no qualms about taking money for a product with no medical endorsement.
Weight Loss Patch Scams
Unfortunately, there are many of these scams around and it is up to the individual to stay vigilant and act sensibly. As the old saying goes, ‘if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is’. With this in mind, steer well clear of anything that rings alarm bells.
If something like this actually worked, wouldn’t everyone be talking about it? It wouldn’t be tucked away on a website somewhere waiting to be discovered.
No Overnight Solution
And remember, there is no overnight solution to weight loss. An awareness of what you eat; a diet that is packed full of healthy food; plenty of regular exercise; and a lot of perseverance are all essential weight loss tools. So, instead of writing a cheque for dubious sounding miracle patches, save your money for a new outfit once you have reached your goal weight.
