Fad diets on the way out
WLR’s Dietitian rejoices in reporting on new research which shows that people are getting the message that fad diets don’t work.

Fad diets on the way out!
A massive 41 percent of us now say that dieting doesn’t work and instead believe that a balanced diet needs to be a way of life. More than a third of us Brits now say that more exercise and not dieting is the best way to shift those pounds and that fat diets don’t work.

New research by Mintel reveals that only eight percent of us now choose a specific diet plan such as the Atkins diet, the GI diet or the Cabbage Soup diet to shift those excess pounds. Only 10 percent of people surveyed said they joined a club such as Weight Watchers to lose weight and sales of meal replacement products have dropped.
In contrast, the research showed that almost two thirds of us are most likely to do more exercise to lose weight, while around half of us cut down on fat and snacks.
It seems the message to eat a healthy, balanced diet and exercise more to lose weight is finally beginning to get through.
Do fad diets work?
WLR says…
It’s great to see that many of us are now turning our backs on fad diets to fight the flab and instead are focussing on eating a healthy, balanced diet and taking more exercise.
Ultimately eating well and increasing our activity levels not only helps us to lose weight, but also has many other health benefits including reducing the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure and keeping bones and joints strong and flexible. Unhealthy fad diets and short-term fitness plans rarely do this.
Weight Loss Resources has always encouraged its members to lose weight slowly and safely by eating healthily and being more active. It now seems the rest of us Brits have finally caught on!
