Dieting History

Calorie controlled. Working out allowance/content in food. I lasted about 3 weeks because I lost interest when I didn’t lose. I’ve never been really keen on ‘dieting’ and have been discouraged when I wanted to try by my family.

Have you lost weight before and regained the weight?

No, never been able to lose weight when I’ve tried to ‘diet’ before. My body shape has gone up and down as a teenager from 9st 7lbs to my start weight in January of 11st 12lbs but not through anything I’ve done intentionally.

How being overweight has affected you…

I have PCOS which affects your resistance to insulin making weight gain easier and weight loss harder. The symptons of PCOS are also more severe the more overweight you become. I hated feeling frumpy. I love wearing tight, fitted clothes and a bikini on holidays.

Motivation to Lose Weight

I have finally found a programme that works for me! The pounds coming off is a great motivator. I think the thing that made me decide to try it seriously was the fact that I was the heaviest I had ever been. The best feeling was getting into a size 10 recently. I started off a size 14, nearly 16.

Discovering Weight Loss Resources

Search Engine. I was looking for calorie content as I was going to calculate my own calories originally. I tried the free trial and thought it was brilliant!

How Weight Loss Resources Helps

The majority of my weight loss was whilst I was following the GI diet using the site to record information. I have lost 2-3lbs a week on a 1lb week rate loss. I'm forever raving about it because it has worked so well for me.

I am definitely more aware of my snacking habit! Seeing everything I’ve eaten and the summaries per meal/and content is a great incentive to pick the right food. I have also found other members who have the same problem as me (PCOS) and it is great to learn what things they are trying.

The Best of Weight Loss Resources

I mostly use the Food diary as I try to keep to my calorie quota religiously. I have found the message boards good for ideas to start with but feel now I have ‘run out of things’ to say!

Emma's Dieting Tips

Try and look at your Food diary if you have had a bad week and think where did I go wrong? I have found many foods that I have thought were ok but were actually full of fat and calories.

Try and avoid takeaways while you try to lose weight. They are really inhibiting.

There are lots of quick meals that are healthy. If you really have to have a takeaway make it an Indian. Pick a dry dish like Tikka or Tandoori and have it with vegetables or salad.

Try and do some exercise every day even if it is only for a 20 minute walk at lunchtime. I try and go up and down our High Street most days.

Anyone can lose weight however slowly. Just keep plucking away at it every week. Look at the long term picture not just that you have ‘put on’ one pound this week.
