Then found Weight Loss Resources.
Please comment on your experiences of trying these diets
I seem to work on two levels: either very bad out of control or very good under control and righteous. There must be a happy medium somewhere. It doesn't get easier as you get older, simply because of the reducing exercise and therefore less calories required.
Tell us how your weight has affected you
There is no doubt that had I been slimmer I would have maybe had a more social lifestyle.
But mainly I would have liked to have looked better or been able to buy even average size clothes; not the puzzled look of the Burton's store staff when asked for a 44" waist and 28" leg!
Obviously being overweight also restricts your activities.
Mood is a very important emotion and looking good does help confidence and contentment. Having suffered from work stress related depression, I know. Just get into that smaller pair of trousers or a glimpse of a slightly slimmer me really bucks me up.
What has been your main motivation to lose weight?
At 55 years old it can't be good to have an obese body. I also promised my wife Alizon a new body by next Christmas.
How did you discover Weight Loss Resources?
Surfing web diets.
Which tools and resources on WLR do you find most valuable?
I enter a daily food diary, have started using the message boards, and watch for new recipes. Certainly ask your support team for advice, or any other members will offer advice.
Why do you think WLR has helped you lose weight where other diets have failed?
The main success with WLR is that I can eat what I like within the designated Cal window. Previously it was diet sheets of menus I didn't particularly like. This way I design my menus inside a window of, say, 1950 cals. I've also started exercising again on a regular basis.
The site has mainly pointed out the really high calorific foods ie olive oil. I thought it was good for you! Peanut butter, wow, alcohol etc. Just identifying and reducing these has really been a blessing.
Try WLR's tools for yourself
Dieting for weight loss is easy with the tools in WLR. You can use the information on Weight Loss Resources to count how many calories you need to consume each day and how many you are actually eating. Try it free for 24 hours.
Colin's hints and tips
- Be honest with yourself. Ok, if you go over the required cals, but keep a record, it's the average calorie intake that matters.
- Don't overdo the exercise and then get bored. A little at a time. At the moment I'm gymming every second day, with a walk at lunch time each day. Be honest and enjoy it.
- One day at a time, be realistic, set targets that are achievable, think at least a year down the road not next week. You're changing a lifestyle for good, it's not a diet that you'll then come off and forget
