Dieting History

I have tried to diet several times before joining WLR, but never really had the motive nor will power to succeed for any period of time.

Have you lost weight before and regained the weight?

I tried to lose some weight about five years ago, and succeeded in losing about two stones. However, over the past two or three years I put all of that weight back on, plus an extra couple of stones!!

How being overweight has affected you…

It’s funny because my weight has never really bothered me too much. It was of more interest to others if I am honest. Although I have to say that after years of endless ‘Fat jokes’, I was getting a little ‘short fused’ with some of my colleagues.

I have always enjoyed exercise, but was beginning to find this increasingly difficult as I was becoming short of breath, and had a real ‘sweating issue’, even when only undertaking the mildest of exercise.

Motivation to Diet

The crunch came for me in February of 2006!

I went to my Doctors as I was having a tingling sensation in the side of my face. I put this down to my job (which can be a little stressful at times).

I know my G.P from playing squash, and he certainly did not pull any punches when advising of my state of health. He said:

  1. You are clinically obese (BMI 38.2)
  2. You have high blood pressure (155/95)
  3. Your have raised Cholesterol (6.3)

I was told I needed to lose at least five stones in weight, and basically change my whole lifestyle.

I have to say when I walked out of there, I could have cried. I did not have a clue what I needed to do.

When I got home, I started to look on the net and stumbled across Weight Loss Resources. I joined the three-day trial, and lost a couple of pounds.

I decided to sign up there and then for six months, and have not looked back since.

To be honest the more weight I lose the more energy I have, and as for exercise, I hardly ‘Puff at all’.

All in all joining Weight Loss Resources was probably one of the best moves that I have ever made, from a health perspective.

Discovering Weight Loss Resources

Just browsing on the net.

How Weight Loss Resources Helps

The site has really ‘Re-educated’ my eating habits.

I have learned not only about calories (through the food diary) but also about food groups (i.e. Carbs, Fats & Proteins etc)

I do enjoy the odd pint of beer and also like to have the occasional takeaway. I have learned that diet does not necessarily mean that these kinds of food are permanently off the menu, but need to be seen as occasional treats, which can be factored into my continued quest to maintain / lose weight.

The Best of Weight Loss Resources

I do tend to be a bit of a ‘Tech Head’, so have in the past spent hours sitting in front of WLR looking at every aspect of the site.

Nowadays I am maintaining my weight loss, as I have decided to have a little break, before finally pushing for my goal weight of 12st later this year. So far I have succeeded in doing this and my weight has not really fluctuated too much in the past 2-3 months.

I personally found the message boards great fun, and have had many a giggle during the evenings!!… You have been warned!

Andy's Dieting Tips

My top tips to losing weight!!

  1. Sensible eating (but don’t starve yourself)
  2. Drink lots and lots of water
  3. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise…..Need I Say More

Use the other members of WLR for advice. Many times during my efforts to lose weight, I had the odd ‘Pig Out’, which I always deeply regretted and hated myself for. The other members are always very supportive, and it is good to know that you are ‘all in this together’, for the long haul!
